Beacon Health Options Earns ISO Information Security Management System Certification for Three New Locations

ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification demonstrates the company has achieved the most demanding IT security standards for support of its business processes

Beacon Health Options (Beacon), the national leader in behavioral health management, announced the company has earned the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification for Information Security Management System for three new locations: Ashburn, Va.; Latham, N.Y.; and Woburn, Mass. The ISO certification is the industry’s most widely recognized set of standards for information security.

The accredited certifying body, TÜV NORD, awarded Beacon the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification after the company passed a rigorous audit of information technology (IT) support services for its business processes. ISO is an independent, non-governmental group that applies common standards for 163 countries. Atlas Systems, Inc. helped Beacon prepare for the successful certification process.

In 2016, Beacon was awarded this certification for its Reston, Va. Operations Center. The Operations Center just successfully completed an annual surveillance audit confirming that it continues to meet the certification’s stringent requirements.

“The ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification and the demanding process to achieve it demonstrates Beacon’s expertise in information security management and its dedication to have the top levels of security in place throughout the company,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Anup Vidyarthy. “With cybercrime-based attacks remaining a leading cause of data breaches, and hackers continuously changing tools, tactics and procedures, the ISO certification provides the utmost assurance to our members, clients, providers and employees that Beacon is vigilant in keeping their data safe and secure.”

The 27000 series refers to the ISO family of standards dealing with information security. ISO/IEC 27001:2013 specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the organization. It also includes requirements for the assessment and treatment of information security risks.

Speaking about Beacon’s future plans, Vice President, Information Technology Security Izhar Mujaddidi noted, “Achieving certification for three additional locations is a significant accomplishment. However, it only represents the beginning of our commitment to the quality of our management processes and information security. The routine monitoring of our systems and the ability to document continued improvement is imperative in maintaining certification and taking Beacon into the future.”
