The Large Employers’ 2018 Health Care Strategy and Plan Design Survey found employers project the total cost of providing medical and pharmacy benefits to rise 5 percent for the fifth consecutive year in 2018.
Faced with this increase, surveyed employers say they plan to focus on how care is delivered and adopt strategies such as offering telehealth for behavioral health services, opening on-site health centers, and promoting Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Employers also plan to “enhance the employee experience”—offering decision support, concierge services, and tools to help employees navigate the health care system.
